PIER FISHING IS SLOW ALONG NORTHERN BEACHES

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was slow Friday.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier landed plenty of skates, but only one croaker. On Avalon Pier, skates were all that were caught.

Nags Head Pier reported some skates and a few toadfish taken. Plenty of skates and a few croaker were landed on Outer Banks Pier.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier anglers caught a few nice sea mullet and some small croakers.

Avon Pier reported scattered toadfish and croaker taken. Although strong winds made fishing difficult on Frisco Pier, anglers managed to land a few sea mullet, toadfish and several gray trout.

Surf fishing continued to be slow along the beach from Corolla to Buxton because of cold inshore waters.

A few bluefish, puppy drum and small croaker were landed Thursday night by fishermen at Cape Point.

Surfcasters along the beach in the Frisco area reported slow fishing Friday. A few flounder and skate were taken Thursday night from the Hatteras Inlet beach.

Although seas were rough south of Oregon Inlet, 28 charter vessels landed good catches of yellowfin tuna. Roughly half of the fleet caught limits weighing 15 to 40 pounds.

Bluewater action off Hatteras was a little slow because of strong currents and cold water. Only a few yellowfin in the 20- to 30-pound class were taken. Fishermen on the headboat Miss Hatteras caught a few king mackerel.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier at Duck was 46 degrees Friday, and 54 at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
