TROOPERS SEIZE CRACK COCAINE ON I-264 AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP THE STATE POLICE CONFISCATE DRUGS, MONEY AND CAR.

State police confiscated about $14,000 worth of crack cocaine in a Norfolk man's car after he was stopped for speeding on I-264, spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame said Friday.

About 7 p.m. Thursday Trooper Tim A. Rice stopped a 1987 Cadillac, traveling west near Ballentine Boulevard, Van Dame said.

As Rice approached the car on foot, he noticed the driver trying to conceal something under the seat, Van Dame said. He ordered the man out of the Cadillac.

Van Dame said the trooper found 138.4 grams of crack cocaine - packaged for distribution - on the front floor board. She said Rice also found more than $2,000 in cash.

Arrested was Nathaniel D. Chapel, 22, of the 1800 block of Green Leaf Drive. He was charged with felony possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, driving on a suspended license, failure to wear a seat belt and speeding in a safety work zone.

He was being held in the Norfolk City Jail on $15,000 bail.

Trooper Larry Montgomery Jr. and his dog, Blitz, assisted Rice.

The drugs, money and car were confiscated, Van Dame said.
