Jack Howard Gibbs, 81, of the 1200 block of Gloucester Lane, a retired civil service employee, died April 11, 1996, in his residence.
Mr. Gibbs was a native of Middleton, N.C., and a resident of Tidewater for most of his life. He was a member of Scott Memorial United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, and a current member of its Board of Stewards. Mr. Gibbs was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He received the Purple Heart after being seriously wounded during the war, as well as numerous other commendations. He was a member of The Disabled American Veterans and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jessie Davis Gibbs of Virginia Beach; two brothers, his identical twin, Gerald Credle Gibbs of Kinston, N.C., Henley Lewton Gibbs of Kenstock, Va.; and several neices and nephews.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Laskin Road Chapel, by Rev. Manning Harrell and Rev. Randolph Arrington. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society, Virginia Beach Chapter. The family will be receiving friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
