For the fourth year in a row, Starr Motors Inc. has earned Chrysler Corp.'s top dealership award.
The family-owned business has received the 1996 Five Star Award for Excellence, which is presented to dealerships demonstrating outstanding achievement in customer satisfaction and sales performance.
The award is given to about 10 percent of Chrysler Corp.'s dealerships each year.
Starr Motors has consistently earned superior satisfaction rating and met Chrysler's highest standards in management and personnel training and equipment, said Charles E. ``Eddie'' White Jr., a vice president and son of the company's founder.
Receiving the award is particularly gratifying because the recipients are chosen by the customers, White said.
``It's a clear reflection of how well we are satisfying customers throughout their total dealership experience,'' he said.
The company was also included in the Eagle's Club, said Mary Kay Flather, district manager for Chrysler.
The Eagle's Club represents the top sales and service performers in the nation with 20 winners in each of five size groups, she said.
``The awards are very prestigious,'' she said.
White's brother, Clay K. White - also a vice president, said this is the second year the company has been included in the Eagle's Club.
Starr was the only Five Star winner in South Hampton Roads, she said.
Charles E. White Sr., who started the company in 1962, was one of three panelists selected to address the Eagle's Club awards' convention in San Francisco last week. He spoke on used car sales.
Starr Motors at 2584 Pruden Boulevard offers a complete line of Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Dodge Truck, Jeep and Eagle vehicles. The family also operates U-Save Auto Rental and offers a full-line service department.
In 1994, Starr was chosen one of five Southside cities to receive the Small Business of the Year Quality Award by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. ILLUSTRATION: File photo
