MACKENDALL ALLEN

MacKendall Allen, 87, died Friday, April 12, 1996, at Leigh Hall Assisted Living, Norfolk.

He was born in Bloomfield, Ky., and had been a Washington, D.C., resident since 1918. He worked as a National Bank Examiner with the comptroller of the currency until his retirement in 1973. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Last fall, he moved to Norfolk, where he died peacefully with family in attendance.

He is survived by his bride of 58 years, Helen Hedetniemi Allen; son, Hugh Kendall Allen of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Laura Allen Gies of Chester, Pa., Jim Allen of Gaithersburg, Md., Amy Allen Thomas of Sausalito, Calif., Craig Allen of Falls Church, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Marian Allen, Michael Allen Thomas, and John Paul Gies.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring, Md. There will be a viewing Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and a graveside service at Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
