BIG BROTHERS, SISTERS TO MARK 25 YEARS OF LOVE

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of South Hampton Roads will hold a 25th anniversary celebration April 25 at the Waterside Marriott in Norfolk.

As part of the event, the organization plans to create a Wall of Love made of brightly colored panels that will include signatures of participants, founders and supporters.

Organizers are trying to contact as many participants, past and present, as possible before the dinner.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a mentoring program that matches boys and girls, ages 6 to 16, with adults who offer friendship and guidance. It has served more than 12,000 children in the region in its 25 years and hundreds of thousands nationally.

Ken Mattingly, an Apollo 13 astronaut, will be the keynote speaker at the April 25 celebration, billed as a ``heroes dinner.''

Anyone who has been involved in the program in the past quarter-century - either as a Big or Little Brother or Sister or as a supporter - is asked to call 490-KIDS for more about signing the wall and participating in the celebration. by CNB
