DEANE ARRESTED; POLICE SAY HE SHOVED 2 OFFICERS

University of Virginia guard Harold Deane was arrested Saturday morning after a disturbance at a private club.

Deane was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest following an incident shortly after midnight at the Fry Springs Beach Club in Charlottesville.

Police said officers were called to the scene after about 150 people were refused admission to a party that apparently was overbooked.

When police asked the people to leave, Deane yelled and pushed two officers, one of whom scraped his arm, police said.

Deane, one of five people arrested, was taken to the magistrate's office and released on bond.

Deane is the fourth person with a connection to the U.Va. men's basketball program to be arrested since February, including freshmen Scott Johnson and Darryl Presley and recruit Melvin Whitaker.

Neither Deane nor head coach Jeff Jones could be reached for comment Saturday. by CNB
