I enjoyed the Associated Press article (April 7) on Elizabeth ``Liddy'' Hanford Dole and her mother, Mary. As a young boy, I lived within rock-throwing distance of the Hanford Wholesale Florist greenhouses in Salisbury, N.C.
While I was able to resist the temptation to throw rocks, I am unable to resist sharing my recollection of my Boyden High School (now Salisbury High) schoolmate whom I knew as ``Liddy.'' Her success is no surprise to anyone who knew the attractive, scholarly and determined young lady from one of Salisbury's most-respected families. I hope all will soon be calling her ``first lady.''
