Hugh Blair Gibbs, 81, of Route (NU)1, died Saturday morning, April 13, 1996, at his home.
Born in Lake Landing, N.C., Dec. 12, 1914, he was the son of the late Early and Ella Mae Sadler Gibbs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received five bronze service stars, worked in the Norfolk Shipyard as a civil service employee for several years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Middletown Christian Church.
Surviving are three brothers, Malcolm O. Gibbs of Route 1, Engelhard, Herbert S. Gibbs of Martinsville, Va., and Larry W. Gibbs of Portsmouth; four sisters, Hazel M.G. Silverthorne, Earline G. Jones, Ella Mae G. Cahoon and Marva G. Gibbs, all of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Carl Gibbs in 1967.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the family plot in Soule Cemetery, Swan Quarter. Steve Bryan will officiate. Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, is handling arrangements.
