John Robert Marshall Sr., 71, of the 1100 block of Baskerville Lane, died April 9, 1996, in Flagstaff, Ariz.
A native of Portsmouth, he was the widower of Evelyn Joyce Marshall and Emma Valarie Nuckols Marshall. He was retired as a water distributor operator for the city of Portsmouth and as owner/operator of Riverside Dairy. He was a member of West Park Church of Christ, Moose Lodge (NU)898, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a prisoner of war.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita MacDonald and her husband Patrick of Chesapeake, Jean Wood and her husband David of Chesapeake; a son, John R. Marshall Jr. and wife Shirley of Edenton; a son-in-law, Donald Gillikin of Chesapeake; two stepdaughters, Patricia VanDorn of Portsmouth, Terrie Jackson and husband Dana of Virginia Beach; a stepson, David L. VanDorn and his wife, Tamra of Nokesville, Va.; a sister, May Winters of Wilson, N.C.; four brothers, Willard Marshall of Sacramento, Calif., Alfred Marshall of Franklin, Va., Lewis Marshall of Suffolk and Rudolph Marshall of Lexington, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Keith Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
