CONNECTICUT BOY, 9, BADLY INJURED IN TWO-VEHICLE WRECK AT BEACH

A 9-year-old boy was in critical condition Sunday night after suffering multiple injuries in a car accident, police said.

The accident occurred at 6:51 p.m. when the boy and his aunt, Catherine MacLean, were headed east on Princess Anne Road at the intersection of Dam Neck Road near the Farmer's Market.

As MacLean attempted to turn left at the intersection, her 1989 Chevrolet Corsica collided with a 1988 Nissan truck driven by Bruce M. Guckert.

MacLean, of the 1800 block of Saville Garden Court, was not injured. She was not wearing a seat belt. Police said it appeared that the boy, who was sitting in the front seat, also was not wearing a seat belt.

The boy was to be transferred Sunday night from Virginia Beach General Hospital to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk.

Police said the boy and his mother were visiting the area from Connecticut.

Guckert, 27, of the 1300 block of Wells Fleet Court, suffered minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, police said. His year-old daughter was secured in a safety seat and was not injured.

Police said neither alcohol nor speeding was a factor in the accident, which is under investigation.
