A police officer, stabbed by a man he was trying to subdue, shot the man just after 8 p.m. Sunday, police said.
No information was available on the condition of the man, whose name was not released.
The incident happened on Diggs Drive after police received a report about a disorderly man. When officers arrived, they tried to reason with the man, described as white and in his 40s, but he brandished a knife and threatened the officers, a police official said.
Police said the man stabbed the officer in the arm as the officer attempted to subdue him, then threatened to stab him again. As the man advanced toward the officer again, the officer fired, hitting the man once in the upper body, police said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was being treated at a hospital.
