Retired Sgt. Maj. John Marion Kaminski Sr. died April 14, 1996.
He was born July 11, 1921, in DeTour, Mich., but was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. He retired from the military after 23 years, having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he joined Virginia Employment Commission and served 15 years, retiring as Peninsula district manager in 1984. He was a member of St. Jerome's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margie J. Kaminski; two daughters, Elizabeth Garvin of Newport News, and Deborah Ruiz of San Antonio, Texas; a son, John M. Kaminski Jr. of Carrollton; a sister, Marion Eichner of Plymouth, Mich; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa and Patrick Garvin, Rome and Bethany Ruiz, Anne and Matthew Kaminski.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Jerome's Catholic Church by Father James Ditty. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, April 25, 1996, at 10 a.m. Memorial donations should be made to St. Jerome's Building Fund or the Heart Fund.
