IDELLA J. SMITH

After a long illness, Idella J. Smith departed this life on April 13, 1996, at Norfolk Community Hospital.

She was born in Norfolk to the late Ivery James and Effie Mae Walton. Idella was raised in a religious home, where the Bible was always taught. She grew up in First Baptist Church, Logan Park. She joined the church at an early age and attended as much as possible. Idella bore her pains without complaining until God called her home.

She leaves to mourn a husband, Charlie Smith Sr.; a son, Charlie Smith Jr. of Norfolk; two daughters, Janet O. Caldwell of Norfolk and Effie M. Hillian of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Alice Smith and Jessie Johnson, both of Norfolk; a brother, James Walton of Victorville, Calif.; four grandsons, Marcus J. and Brian E. Caldwell, LeRoy Smith and Gabriel L. Hillian; a granddaughter, Rena L. Hillian; two sons-in-law; a daughter-in-law; and a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Logan Park, by the Rev. James Anderson. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The viewing will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.
