Survivors include his wife, Daphine Starling; three sons, Joseph L. Starling, William A. Starling, both of Virginia Beach, and Donald E. Starling of Arkansas; daughter, Patricia Wells of Arkansas; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lee Arnold of Salem, Va.
