Della Claire Snipes Newbern died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Albemarle Hospital.
She was a native of Hertford County, N.C., a former public school teacher and a member of Hebron United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Finley Snipes and the widow of H.D. ``Buster'' Newbern.
Survivors include three sons, John Melvin Newbern of Chesapeake, and Finley Snipes Newbern and H.D. Newbern III, both of Powells Point; a sister, Arra Snipes of Ahoskie, N.C.; a brother, Robert Finley Snipes of Wilson, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Lori N. McGraw, Christopher Newbern, H.D. Newbern IV, Scott Newbern, Clayton Newbern, John Norris Newbern, Krystal Newbern and Lindsey Claire Newbern; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew. She is predeceased by a brother, R.T. Snipes.
The funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Hebron United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lindy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Newbern Family Cemetery at Powells Point. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
