WILLIAM C. SYKES

William Henry Clark Sykes, 80, of the 700 block of Wimbley Lane, died Wednesday morning, April 17, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth, and was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Reed Sykes. He was a retired automobile mechanic. Mr. Sykes was Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 18. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 29th Infantry Division, which participated in the D-Day invasion and was a member of the Norfolk Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a son, Paul A.C. Sykes, and his wife, Deborah, of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996, in Oak Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, by Father Christian Haydinger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Annual Fund of The Williams School, 419 Colonial Ave., Norfolk 23507, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Cox Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
