MAN FALLS OFF PIER

A 33-year-old man was missing Wednesday after he apparently fell from a fishing pier, the Coast Guard said.

The man, whose identity was not released, fell off Harrison's Fishing Pier just off 4th View St. in Willoughby about 3 p.m. Witnesses said he was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt.

A Norfolk police boat, police divers, Coast Guard vessels and a Coast Guard helicopter were searching the area, but had found nothing by nightfall.

Teams of searchers also were scouring area beaches to see if the man had been washed ashore.
