The following list is a reminder of who is running for the City Council and the School Board in the May 7 election, and an opportunity for you to learn about when and where these candidates will participate in forums. Keep in mind that regardless in what part of the city you reside, you are eligible to vote in each of the races. CANDIDATE FORUMS
The Sandbridge Beach Civic League is sponsoring a forum for City Council candidates at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sandbridge Community Chapel, 3041 S. Sandpiper Road.
The Virginian-Pilot will sponsor a series of forums at the Kempsville Recreation Center:
Today - 5:30 to 7 p.m. Twelve of the 23 candidates for the two at-large seats (four-year terms) on the School Board will answer questions (Stuart Gordon, Robert Brich, Robert Mandigo Jr., John Mason, Frank Rough, George Melnyk Jr., Mike Mitchell III, James Polk, Vernon Fix, Michael Prokopchak, Pedro Rodriguez). From 7:30 to 9 p.m., the other candidates for those two seats will answer questions (Joshua Edwards Sr., Steven Emmanuel, Ann Ewing, Robert Beardsley Jr., Raymond Beck, Sandy Bowie, Donald Bradway, Sonja Watts, Rosemary Wilson, Jane Nosonchuk, Neil Rose).
April 20 - 9:30 to 11 a.m. Eight of the candidates for the at-large seat (two-year term) on the School Board will answer questions (Gail Ball, Donald Bennis, Charles Clark, George Coker, Daniel Edwards, James Grace). From noon to 1:30 p.m., the other candidates for that seat will answer questions (Michael Moore, Michael Nagelin, Raymond Newlon, Kenneth Sigmon, Claude Thompson, Al Wallace III).
The Lake Edward Civic League and Neighborhood Advisory Council will hold a series of forums from 7 to 9 p.m. at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 848 Baker Road:
Today - Candidates for the at-large seat (two-year term) on the School Board will answer questions.
April 26 - Candidates for the two at-large seats (four-year terms) on the School Board will answer questions.
May 3 - City Council candidates will answer questions.
The Bay Colony/Cavalier Park Civic Association has invited City Council candidates to answer questions at 8 p.m. April 29 at Galilee Episcopal Church, 40th Street and Pacific Avenue.
The Christian Coalition will sponsor a forum from 7 to 9 p.m. April 30 in the Library Auditorium at Regent University for all School Board candidates.
The Virginia Beach Association for the Gifted and Talented will sponsor a single forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 1 at Larkspur Middle School for all School Board candidates. SCHOOL BOARD At Large seat 2-year term (choose one)
