Chester Harry Spence Jr., 46, of the 1100 block of Meadow Sage Lane, died in his residence on April 17, 1996.
Mr. Spence was born in Norfolk but had lived in Virginia Beach for the past 34 years. He was employed at CERES Marine Terminals, Inc. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Spence was a Virginia Hunter Safety Education instructor and from 1981 to 1990 was active with the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife, E. Katherine Malch Spence; one son, Robert Leonard Spence; his father, Chester Harry Spence Sr.; brother, Gary Spence, all of Virginia Beach; one sister, Ellen Dixon of Illinois; two half-brothers, Pete Harmon of Kansas and Robert Twisdale and one half-sister, Robin Fink; and his granddaughter, Ashlyn Nicole Spence, all of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. Mark J. Bender. Friends may join the family at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. and at 284 Citation Drive, Virginia Beach, following the burial.
