JADIS S. BATTLE

Jadis S. Battle, 69, of 1662 Darren Circle died April 16, 1996, in her residence.

She retired from the Portsmouth school system after 11 years of service. She was a member of the Foster Parent Association of Portsmouth Social Services Advisory Board. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Temple and a former member of the gospel choir.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Battle; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Dancy of Lancaster, Calif., Ms. Iris Battle of Portsmouth; two sons, William Sexton Battle of Chesapeake, and Paul J. Battle of Portsmouth; three sisters, Mrs. Mogal Porter of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Lynese Hardy and Mrs. Juanita Clay of Portsmouth; four brothers, Andrew Roy Sexton of Charlotte, N.C., Ronald Sexton of East Orange, N.J., Cedric Sexton of Philadelphia, and Willard Sexton of San Pedro, Calif.; one devoted son-in-law, Maurice Dancy of Lancaster; two devoted daughters-in-law, Carmen Battle of Portsmouth and Juanita Battle of Chesapeake; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five foster children; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Mount Herman Baptist Temple. A Christian wake will be Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Mount Herman Baptist Temple. A viewing of the body will begin Sunday after 5 p.m. The family will be at the residence of Paul J. Battle, 902 Horne Ave., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
