THOMAS F. BUTLER

Thomas Frank Butler, 81, of the 4800 block of Manor Ave., died April 17, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.

He was retired from civil service at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he had worked until 1975. He retired after 39 years of service. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and was a member of Cradock Baptist Church. He was also a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge (NU)178 AF&AM, and he was a member and past high priest of Cradock Royal Arch Chapter.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Hayes Butler; son, Thomas F. Butler Jr. of Leesburg, Va.; three sisters, Irene B. Howell of Franklin, Nellie B. Williams of Macon, Ga., and Minnie B. Holland of Suffolk; brother, Wilson M. Butler of Carrsville, Va.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. by Dr. David R. Denny in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge (NU)178, AF&AM, South George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, Va. 23323.
