Elizabeth Morrill Holladay, 86, formerly of Charlottesville, Va. and Englewood, Fla., died April 17, 1996, in a local nursing home.
She was a lifelong aviator and artist and a native of Cincinnati. She was the widow of Richard F. Holladay. Mrs. Holladay was a flight instructor in the 1930's and was one of the first women flight instructors in the state of Virginia. She was also an artist specializing in portraits and painted portraits of many prominent members of the Charlottesville and Englewood communities. Mrs. Holladay and her husband operated the Charlottesville Albermarle Airport under their company Hollady Aviation for many years. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames and the Manasota Beach Club of Englewood.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine L. Holladay of Charlottesville; son, Richard F. Holladay Jr. of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Page C. Walsh of Jackson, Mich., Mary Logan Hoxton of Sheperdstown, W.Va., Richard F. Holladay III of Atlanta, Ga., Elizabeth Ann Holladay of Virginia Beach; four great-grandchildren, Connnor Patrick Walsh, Braden Mather Walsh, Archibald R. Hoxton V and Payton Elizabeth Hoxton.
A memorial service will be conducted at noon Saturday in Waddell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rapidan, Va. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is in charge.
