SUSPECT IN SEXUAL ASSAULT

A Virginia Beach man was arrested this week after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 40-year-old woman, police spokesman Lou Thurston said.

Police said the Virginia Beach woman accepted a ride Sunday with the man, who she knew. He drove her to the end of Bells Road, where he forced her out of the car and dragged her to a wooded area.

The man then held the woman's face down in water and sexually assaulted her, Thurston said.

On Tuesday, detective Mark Bordner found the suspect, Russell Grimsley, 33, at a friend's home in Portsmouth.

Grimsley, of the 1900 block of Piney Woods Lane, was charged with one count each of abduction and sodomy and two counts of sexual penetration with an animate object. He was being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bail. ILLUSTRATION: Russell Grimsley
