The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its 1995
report on AIDS on Thursday. The number of people diagnosed with AIDS
fell 7 percent from the previous year, to 74,180 cases nationwide.
The District of Columbia, for a second year, led the nation in
AIDS cases.
AIDS rates per 100,000 residents by state in 1995, followed by
the 1994 rate:
District of Columbia: 185.7, 246.9
Puerto Rico: 70.3, 62.5
New York: 68.4, 81.1
Florida: 56.9, 61.1
New Jersey: 55.5, 61.7
Virginia: 24.3, 17.5
North Carolina: 13.9, 16.8
