William Hyslop Sumner Burgwyn Jr., 79, died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in his home in Woodland.
A native of Northampton County, Mr. Burgwyn was retired as district attorney of Northampton County, serving from 1952 to 1981. He was also a former state senator.
Survivors include his wife, Emerald Dahl Burgwyn; three daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Burgwyn and Anna Poole Burgwyn of Woodland, and Mary Ridley Burgwyn of Wilmington; a stepson, Tyrus Vance Dahl Jr. of Winston-Salem; two stepdaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth Dahl of Winston-Salem; and a sister, Margaret Burgwyn Cooley of Jackson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Woodland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Leburg. Burial will follow in the Griffin-Burgwyn Family Cemetery, North Sycamore Street, Woodland. Memorial donations may be made to the Woodland United Methodist Church, Friends of Woodland Olney, The Northampton County Museum, or the Woodland Rescue Squad. Bridgers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
