Johanna Tidwell Whitney, of the 1200 block of N. High St., died April 17, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.
She was a native of Franklin and retired from Southampton Memorial Hospital as a licensed practical nurse after 25 years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Franklin, and was honored as mother of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian T. Wilkins of Franklin; a sister, Mamie T. Britt of Chesapeake; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Joann Richardson-Jones and Ronald Jones of Portsmouth; four great-grandchildren, Shawnya Jones of Richmond, Va. Jaida Cureton of Washington, D.C., Arin Jones of Durham, N.C., Jaliah Richardson-Jones of Portsmouth.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. A.L. Goodwyn. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. The remains will be placed in the church for viewing at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Wm.M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home is in charge.
