LUTHER G. HOOPER JR.

Luther Grandy Hooper Jr., 63, died Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Malcolm Grow Hospital in Andrews Air Force Base, Md.

He was born in Avon, and was a (Ret.) damage controlman in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S.C.G. during the Korean War. He was a member of the Avon Assembly of God in Avon. Mr. Hooper was the son of the late Luther G. Hooper Sr. and the late Dora Meekins Hooper, and the husband of Rita Scarborough Hooper of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, L. Grandy III, Michael E., R. Darren and Kerry C. Hooper, all of Avon, and T. Wayne Hooper of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Edith H. Gray of Norfolk and Kathleen H. Gaskins of Buxton, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Kellan, Michael Jr., Logan, Darren Jr., Kerry Jr., Krystal and Tyler (all Hoopers), all of Avon, Asia and Jehanne Hooper of Lakeland, Fla.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Avon Assembly of God today at 4 p.m. with the Revs. Don Vess, Reese Quidley, Barry Taylor and Glen Lawrence officiating. Burial will take place in the family cemetery in Avon. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge.
