BERNICE B. SPANN

Bernice Byrum ``Nanny'' Spann, 90, of the 1000 block of Rowland Ave., went to be with the Lord on April 19, 1996.

Mrs. Spann, a native of Gates County, N.C., was the loving wife of the late Lemuel Seals ``Jack'' Spann for 59 years. She was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake. She was a member of Helpful Club and Ruth Bible Sunday school class of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star Friendship Chapter (NU)57 and a member of First Senior Citizens of Chesapeake. She was the daughter of the late Bertie Ward Byrum and the late Harold Scott Byrum.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Eloise and Joe Brickhouse, Jean and Rudy Davis, Shirley and Bill Tuck, and Bettie Jo and Jack Rowland, all of Chesapeake; three sisters, Krelean Toppin of Nags Head, N.C., Mary Lassiter of Edenton, N.C., and Joyce Howell of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Penny Wilson and the Rev. Henry V. Napier at Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends today at Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and at the residence all other times. Memorial donations may be made to Raleigh Heights Baptist Church Sound System Fund.
