NOT MUCH REASON TO CHEER ABOUT ACTION AT THE PIERS

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fairly good at some locations Friday, but slow at others.

Skates, a few small croaker and a couple of sea mullet were landed at Kitty Hawk Pier.

Avalon Pier reported good catches of toadfish during the morning. A few sea mullet and some skates also were landed.

Fishermen on Nags Head and Outer Banks Piers caught only skates.

South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught plenty of toadfish and scattered sea mullet on the rising tide. Action slowed during the afternoon.

Sea mullet and toadfish action was good throughout the afternoon on Avon Pier.

Some nice sea mullet and plenty of toadfish were landed throughout the day on Frisco Pier.

A few toadfish, small croaker and an occasional bluefish were beached by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Fair numbers of sea mullet and toadfish were landed along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Some big drum were landed Thursday night at Cape Point. Two-pound bluefish were caught regularly on cut bait Friday morning along with sharks, skates and scattered bottom fish.

Sea mullet, toadfish, small bluefish and a few nice flounder were taken by surf fishermen along the beach from ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Striped bass fishing was great Friday in the Manns Harbor area. Fish weighing between 2 and 15 pounds were taken by just about everyone trolling and casting next to the bridge.

Charter craft fishing in the Gulf Stream southeast of Oregon Inlet had fairly good luck tuna fishing. A couple of limits were reported. The best action was between the 40480 and the 40520 Loran lines on the 100 fathom curve. Most of the fish taken were down deep.

Blue water action off Hatteras was fair, with scattered yellowfin tuna taken. Most of the action was 30 miles south of Hatteras Inlet. A sailfish was released by the FinFantasy.

The water temperature was 49 degrees Friday at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 64 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
