JAMES DELOATCH SR.

James ``Geech'' Deloatch Sr., of the 900 block of Ingleside Road, departed Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was a retired paper handler for The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star, where he was employed for over 40 years, and the city of Norfolk after 26 years. He was a native of Scotia, S.C., and the son of the late Doc and Minnie Deloatch. He was a watch care member of Freedom Church. He was the widower of Alberta Deloatch.

He is survived by a son, James ``Spankum'' Deloatch Jr.; three daughters, Barbara D. Askew, Linda and Robin Deloatch; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Cathedral Church in Norfolk on Lewellyn Avenue by the Rev. Frank Askew. A wake service will be held Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Graves Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at 901 Ingleside Road and the funeral home. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
