MURIEL Y. LABARGE

Muriel Y. LaBarge, 75, died Friday, April 12, 1996, in a local hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Effie Moon Young of Hancock, Maine.

Muriel, who was affectionately called ``Skip'' by her friends, is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bernard A. LaBarge; two daughters, Darienne of Southern Shores, and Karen Lee of New Orleans, La.; a son, Bruce, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a sister, Jeanette Swann of Knoxville, Tenn.

She was a graduate of Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing, Boston, Mass., and in that capacity served with several obstetricians in the Norfolk area before moving with her husband to Guam. There she worked as a nursing supervisor in the Naval Hospital where she was the recipient of several outstanding awards. She later worked for the government of Guam School System as a school nurse. The LaBarges were on Guam approximately 20 years. She loved the island and endeared herself both to the local people and the military personnel who passed through the hospital. Her friends are scattered throughout the U.S. and the Far East. She was a completely selfless and compassionate person. Her life was devoted to the service of others without ever losing sight of the fact that God and family were her top priorities.

Needless to say, the medical profession has lost one of its best, as has her family and friends. More importantly, she now is in the hands of our Lord and free of pain. A family service will be held graveside in Hancock, Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice or to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Building Fund, Kill Devil Hills, N.C. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
