Elsie Daughtrey Godfrey, 89, of Great Neck Road, died April 18, 1996.
Mrs. Godfrey, a native of Nansemond County, Va., was the daughter of Jasper and Susie Daughtrey and the widow of N.B. She was a longtime member of Scott Memorial United Methodist Church and the Great Neck Garden Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Godfrey Ray of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Alicia Godfrey Ray of Virginia Beach; a grandson, John Matthew Ray of Radford, Va.; four sisters, Dorothy D. Anderson of Richmond, Edith D. Rawls and Nell D. Howell of Suffolk, and Ida D. Graves of Lacey Springs, Va.; and two brothers, E. Hunter Daughtrey and Jasper Daughtrey Jr. of Suffolk. She was the most loving mother and grandmother anyone could want, and a friend to all children. We will miss her so.
A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Scott United Methodist Church by the Rev. Manning Harrell. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel is handling arrangements.
