George Donald Newkirk, 85, a resident of Virginia Beach, died April 20, 1996.
Mr. Newkirk was born in Sampson County, N.C., and was the son of the late Ben and Ella Newkirk. He was a lifetime member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church in Wallace, N.C.
Mr. Newkirk was a retired building contractor who had worked in this area for many years. He was an honorary member of the Princess Anne Ruritan Club, and a former member of the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department. He was a graduate of Franklin High School in Harrels, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rau Newkirk of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Eloise R. Innis of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Sallie N. Morrison of Willard, N.C.; a brother, Franklin Newkirk of Surf City, N.C., and Augusta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Wallace, by the Rev. Ottis King. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451, or to the charity of choice.
