Chief Petty Officer James Joseph Schurko Sr., USN (Ret.), 54, of the 1400 block of Glendale Ave., died April 14, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he retired from the Navy after 20 years and was a member of Fleet Reserve Association. He was Catholic.
Survivors include a son, James Joseph Schurko Jr. of New York City.
Burial will be at sea by the U.S. Navy at a later date. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
