CARLETON B. FORSYTH

Carleton Buck Forsyth, 65, of the 5500 block of Whirloway Road, died April 21, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital following a courageous bout with cancer.

Mr. Forsyth was born in Massachusetts and was a budget analyst for the Department of the Navy and was a Navy veteran.

He enlisted in the Navy Dec. 13, 1956. During his active duty, he completed Officer Candidate School and at the time of his retirement from the Naval Reserve he held the rank of lieutenant commander.

He served aboard a troopship, the U.S.S President Jackson, during the Korean War; a destroyer, the U.S.S. Forrest Sherman; and an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Lake Champlaigne. At her decommissioning, he was given the Union Jack by the ship's commanding officer.

Mr. Forsyth had resided in Virginia Beach since 1989. He had been the lay reader at Christ's Reformed Episcopal Church of Norfolk. He was a member of Branch Fire of the Fleet Reserve Association. He did volunteer work for the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society for about three years.

Survivors include his wife, Genoveive B. Forsyth of the home; a brother, David Forsyth of Milton, Mass.; a niece, Bonnie; two nephews, Scott and Jesse Forsyth, both of Milton, Mass.; an aunt and uncle; five cousins; and their children, all of New Hampshire.

A funeral will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Christ's Reformed Episcopal Church, 5204 Elmhurst Ave., Norfolk, by the Rev. Joseph Mahler. Burial will be in Bourne, Mass. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall, Kempsville Chapel, where a Fleet Reserve service will be held at 4:30 p.m. before procession to the church.
