William Elderidge Cartwright, 82, of the 5100 block of Portsmouth Blvd., died April 23, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., and was predeceased by his parents, William Selby and Elizabeth Berry Cartwright; and his wife, Helen Taft Cartwright. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he had worked as an electronic engineer.
He is survived by a daughter, Anne Kirkley Cartwright of Annandale, Va.; son, William E. Cartwright Jr. of McLean, Va.; and two sisters, Monray Brinn of Yorktown, Janet Newton of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Garland K. Hines Jr. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m.
