Rev. Marion B. ``Basil'' Williams, 84, of the 1400 block of Lake Christopher Drive, a retired Baptist minister for over 55 years, died in Virginia Beach on April 23, 1996.
Rev. Williams was born in Huntington, Ind. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in East Peoria, Ill., and attended the First Baptist Church of Norfolk. He was a former city councilman in Marion, Ohio, and after his retirement, he was a minister at large for the American Baptist Association serving in Idaho, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He was a former chaplain of the Optimist Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosalie Pinkard of Virginia Beach; two sons, Jack Williams of Columbia, Tenn., and Jim Williams of Nassau, the Bahama Islands; a sister, Dorothy Kyle of Marion; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Helen Williams and his daughter, Rose Ellen Hastings.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Remmert Funeral Home, 521 E. Washington St., East Peoria, Ill. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Mulkeytown Cemetery, Mulkeytown, Ill. at 4 p.m. the same day. Friends may join the family at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, today for visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Please make donations to First Baptist Church of Norfolk, Va.
