Minnie Edna Thornton, 74, died April 22, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.
She was retired from Norfolk Catholic High School. Mrs. Thornton was a native of Beaufort County, N.C.
She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Thornton; two daughters, Phyllis June Bell of West Pittston, Pa., and Tammi Gail Thornton of Durham, N.C.; three sons, Thomas Michael Grim of Fallbrook, Calif., the Rev. Harold Blane Thornton of Columbus, Ohio, Harvey Dane Thornton of Chesapeake; five sisters, Myrtle Tolor of Washington, N.C., Dolly Umphlett of Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Ruth Wynn of Virginia Beach, Helen Cole of Suffolk, Collene Woolard of Suffolk; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Langdon Montgomery in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
