POLICE OFFICERS HONORED

Three Norfolk police officers who faced life-threatening situations while on duty several months ago have been honored by the Fraternal Order of Police, Commodore Lodge No. 3.

At the quarterly awards ceremony Tuesday night, officers Larry E. Bobbitt, Chris R. Amos and David Huffman were named Police Officers of the Quarter. They were presented with plaques.

Early last December Bobbitt fatally shot an auto-theft suspect who beat him several times with a two-by-four. Bobbitt, who has been on the job more than 19 years, shot the man with his 9mm sidearm to fend off the attack.

Amos, a four-year veteran bicycle patrol officer, was shot twice on Jan. 3 while trying to catch a suspected drug dealer in Brambleton. He was spared a life-threatening chest wound by his bullet-proof vest, but was shot in the leg.

The shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Bond St. near Marshall Avenue as Amos and Huffman, his partner, were on routine patrol near Norfolk State University. by CNB
