A police motorcyclist was badly hurt in a collision with a car late Tuesday at the Oceanfront.
The crash happened sometime after 10 p.m. near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Seventh Street. Police spokesman Lou Thurston said the officer was motoring north on Pacific, responding to a call, using lights and siren. At the intersection, a car turned in front of the officer's motorcycle and the vehicles collided.
The car, and possibly the motorcycle, briefly caught fire.
The officer, who wasn't identified because his family hadn't been notified, was taken to the Trauma Center at Virginia Beach General Hospital. Thurston said the officer was conscious when rescue crews arrived. The officer's condition wasn't available, but Thurston said the injuries appeared significant.
