Clara S. Simmons, 77, of the 2400 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd., died April 21, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
She was a native of Norfolk and was retired from DePaul Hospital after 19 years of employment. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, a former member of the A.R. Caesar Bible Class and a graduate of the B.T. Washington Class of 1936. She was widowed after 54 years of marriage to James Simmons and followed him in death six months later.
She is survived by two sisters, May C. Portlock, Ellen C. Johnson, of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth H. Clapp; a brother-in-law, W. Luke Johnson; several devoted nieces and nephews, relatives, and a host of friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in First Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Johnnie L. White Sr., pastor. A viewing will be in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Graves Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home of May C.
