Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Max Wayne Carroll, 55, of the 3900 block of Topaz Lane, died April 23, 1996, at a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Carroll, a medical specialist with the Army, was former head custodian at Rosemont Elementary School. He was a native of Olney, Ill. A veteran of Vietnam, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, Bronze Star Medal Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Legion of Merit.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline J. Carroll; a daughter, Shelly Carroll of Virginia Beach; a son, Martin Carroll of Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-law, Heidi Bullard and Kim Bullard, both of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Hampton National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge.
