VERA H. VINCENT

Vera Huckabee Vincent, of Route 1, passed away in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

She was 87 years of age. The daughter of the late James H. and Mrs. Lota Foster Huckabee, she was the wife of the late Tony Vincent Sr.

Mrs. Vincent was born Feb. 17, 1909, and had lived in Indianola, Miss., until moving to Eure to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Felton Landing. She was the oldest member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Ahoskie. Mrs. Vincent was well known. She had a generous heart and caring spirit as exemplified in the way she treated her friends and family. She was a Christian lady. Mrs. Vincent fought a long and courageous battle against cancer with loving support of her family and friends.

Surviving are a daughter, Marie Vincent Landing and her husband, Felton D. Landing of Eure; daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Vincent of Jackson, Miss.; four sons, Tony Vincent Jr. of Tallulah, La., James M. Vincent and his wife, Jackie of Pasadena, Texas, Leonard F. Vincent and his wife, Gertrude of Clarksdale, Miss., and Peter Vincent of Morgan City, La.; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Col. Samuel M. Vincent.

Friends may join the family today from 7 to 9 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the home of her daughter in Eure. Following the visitation Mrs. Vincent will be sent to Card Funeral Home in Indianola for services to be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Vincent Family Plot in Indianola Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Card Funeral Home with a rosary service following. Memorial contributions may be made to Roanoke-Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910.
