The public is invited to take home a piece of The Fire Escape, a
longtime Christian gathering spot and concert hall at 17th Street
and Pacific Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The building is
being torn down to make room for more parking for nearby Virginia
Beach United Methodist Church, which owns the property. Salvagers
must bring their own tools and may take any part of the building
that will not cause structural damage or create a safety problem.
Visitors may take tiles, fans, window panes, bricks, etc. A $10
donation will be accepted by the church from each salvager. Also,
offers may be made for a three-basin restaurant sink, the bar and a
pizza oven.
