Ford owners who are unsure whether their vehicle has been

recalled or are unsure of what steps to take to have the work done

should call 1 (800) 392-FORD. After making sure your vehicle has

been recalled, Ford advises the following:

Call a local dealer and schedule the service. The work should

only take 30 minutes or so, but with high-volume recall dealers may

be too overwhelmed to handle unscheduled work.

If you had read about the problems and paid for the work on your

own, it probably cost you about $100. Ford will reimburse you for

that.

Beware of the problem. If your car has a faulty ignition switch,

spokesman John Harmon says the fire will begin slowly, putting off a

lot of smoke, giving the driver and passengers ample time to get out

of the vehicle.

Ford began sending official recall letters to customers today,

but it may take several weeks to notify everyone.
