Julian Banister Mitchell, 68, of 23431 Thomas Circle, died April 25, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Brunswick County and was the son of the late John Banister and Kate Clarke Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was the owner-operator of Mitchell's Super Market. He was a Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, the Courtland Ruritan Club and the Davis Ridley Hunt Club. He was a former member of the Courtland Town Council, the Board of Directors of Dominion Bank and Southampton Academy.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Patricia Ferguson Mitchell; two daughters, Hope Wrenn Mitchell and her husband, Jessie Moore, of Franklin, and Julia Ann Mitchell of Courtland; a son, John Banister Mitchell of Berlin, Va.; three sisters, Lucille M. Dickens of Courtland, Katie M. Pearson of Norfolk, and Virginia M. Webb of Lawrenceville; two grandchildren, Kyle Moore and Justin Lisk; and nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. John Wimer. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851, or to a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.
