Harry Lee Lawrence, 87, of the 400 block of Drum Hill Road, died April 26, 1996, at Obici Hospital.
Mr. Lawrence, a retired farmer, was a native of Portsmouth and the widower of Evelyn Duke Lawrence. He was a member of Somerton United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and obtained the rank of chief petty officer.
Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Lawrence Harrell of Suffolk and Frances Lawrence Jenkins of Chesapeake; a nephew, John Lee Jenkins of Chesapeake; several great-nephews and nieces; and great-great-nephews and nieces. Mr. Lawrence made his home with his niece and nephew-in-law, Betty Jean and Edward M. Cowan in Suffolk.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by the Revs. Joe Buck, Rob Vaughn, Ann Benson and Larry Renfrow at Somerton United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk 23439. The family will receive friends in the residence. Hill Funeral Home is in charge.
