Commissioner Clarence Skinner announced Friday that Dare County's proposal to build a dialysis center has been approved by the state.
``This is great news,'' Skinner said. ``It means that the 11 people who have had to go Elizabeth City or Hampton Roads for treatment can now be treated in Dare County.''
The county has been working on the request since August, and was given the go-ahead Friday by the North Carolina Service Facilities Department, pending a 30-day waiting period.
Plans call for a 2,000-square-foot addition to the Outer Banks Medical Center in Nags Head, operated by Chesapeake General Hospital.
The facility will have four dialysis stations.
The cost of the facility has not been determined, said Skinner, who praised staffers at Chesapeake General for their help in getting approval. by CNB
