UNATTENDED CANDLE STARTS HOUSE FIRE

Fire at a home in the 300 block of Constance Drive caused about $50,000 in damage Friday morning after an unattended candle ignited furnishings in the living room.

Division Chief Thomas Cooke, who reported the cause of the fire, said the home owner unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire, then called the Fire Department.

Chesapeake firefighters responded about 9:30 a.m.
